The Thomas Brown House was built in 1781, it is the oldest house on Winter Street. The house was built on land once owned by Mrs. Anne Pudeater. The land was later sold to the Cheever Family. Then in August 29, 1781 Thomas Brown bought the land. During the early stages of renovation the orginal builder's signiture was found on the northeast corner beam of the house. It reads, "T Brown this day September 23, 1788." For 12 years he lived in the house with his wife Margaret (Skerry) and raised 3 children before his death at age 46 in 1793. Margaret lived in the house for another 25 years after Thomas Brown's death.
